In a later post, we will learn about setting the Java version for the web app that we create in this post, as well as telling Eclipse what installed Java distribution to use for a given Java version. We will also create an Environment Variable in the Tomcat configuration and then use it in the web app. Today, we’ll set up Tomcat and deploy a basic Maven web application. With Tomcat, it’s easy to setup a local server and debug right within Eclipse. Having a local server for debugging, prior to even deploying to a dev environment, is almost a necessity.
